While earning a M. Sc. in Finance & Law from University of London, Julie joined Glencore, the World’s largest commodity trading and mining firm, in Switzerland, quickly developing an expertise in their global physical base metals business. She returned to Asia, joining Noble Resources in 2011 with a mandate to establish a China focused base metal desk; she built up a successful franchise generating profits each year measured in tens of millions of USD. In 2014 Julie jointly left with rest of team to set up new base metals desk at Gunvor, one of the World’s largest oil trading houses. At Gunvor, Julie together with her team replicated the building of a highly efficient and successful base metal desk from scratch. In May 2016, Julie cofounded Viant Commodities and with over a decade experience in the metal merchant business together with her co-founder Rene van der Kam, she is now spearheading a new generation metal merchant incorporating new technologies and best practice wherever possible.

 

Julie is frequent industry speaker and has spearheaded Viand’s Recycling project, and is also engaged with Viant Art, the company’s project so support and promote up and coming SE Asian artists.

 

Julie is fluent in Mandarin and English, and has lived and worked Switzerland, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore, building an extensive network of senior contacts across banking and the base metals industry.
